Senior Tax Manager

Tax/Senior Manager Responsibilities:

  • Have the technical skills to perform an effective preparation and review of all types of tax returns (i.e. 1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, 990, 1041, Multistate, etc.). This means performing at the necessary level to ensure relevant issues have been identified and resolved and the returns are complete and ready for the Managing Partner review.
  • Review financial statements (i.e. Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, Budget vs. Actual, etc.) for outsourced accounting clients using QuickBooks Online and Desktop, and be able to provide feedback to clients as an external CFO for more informed decision making.
  • Manage engagements including the planning and supervision of the tax returns, tax planning, accounting and attestation services to ensure timely completion, and proper delegation to the correct staff.
  • Mentoring and developing staff to grow and take on higher responsibilities of the firm.
  • Provide tax research and consulting services in response to tax return issues, client requests and identifying opportunities to provide additional services to the client.
  • Consult by phone, email or in person with prospective clients to identify the right fit with the firm and needed services.
  • Proactively communicate with Managing Partner on status of projects and assistance needed.
  • Assume certain administrative responsibilities to assist the Managing Partner with the overall management of the Firm. This would include billing, interviewing candidates, developing processes, and participating in training as an attendee and as a leader.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of the internal revenue code, state tax rules and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks, MS Outlook, Word, Excel, the Internet and other tax and accounting software (Proseries Tax, XCM Project Management and RIA Checkpoint experience a Plus).
  • Must be able to type 65 wpm.
  • Ability to review and provide feedback on work prepared by Staff and Seniors in a professional manner.
  • The ability to establish a rapport and good communication with clientele.
  • Ability to gather, organize and summarize information efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to adhere to given budgets and time deadlines.
  • Manages own time and the time of others.
  • Motivates, develops and directs staff as they work.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Creative, take charge personality.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Accounting.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or (EA) license required.
  • Minimum eight years Public Accounting Experience.
  • Minimum four years of management experience.
